About Me
Hi, I'm Jess! Welcome to Plane Ticket for One!
Back in 2006 I fell in love with travel when I took off on a ski season in Canada on my own.
Since then I've visited more than 80 countries across 6 continents, seen all 7 New Wonders of the World, and did a lot of it flying solo!
"Aren't you scared? Don't you get lonely?" - I get asked this a lot.
But it's totally selfish! Always choosing the restaurant, spending as long as I want in one place or the next, squeezing through a crowd without wondering where someone else is... What's not to love??
"But how do you manage to travel so much? How do you afford it?" - I also get asked this a lot.
The truth is, it's all hard work. When I first started travelling, I spent a lot of time at university putting in shifts at a restaurant and saving parts of my student loan so that I could spend the summers travelling as much as possible.
After university, I moved back to my parents house and took a crappy job with long shifts for a year. I hated it, but it was worth it to spend almost a year travelling on my first RTW trip!
MORE ABOUT ME...
I love travelling solo. Like, actually LOVE it.
Almost as much as I love food. I've eaten some weird things... I love to travel in as much "luxury" as I can afford.
Splurging on a cocktail with a view or the city's best restaurant is almost ALWAYS worth it! Hiking, abseiling and kayaking are my go-to outdoors activities.
Apparently I also like to sit and look at views with my back to the camera...
Wildlife is a massive passion of mine, both photographing and protecting all creatures great and small.
You can be sure that if there is an animal about I will be there, gazing at it doe-eyed!
I'm extremely passionate against anti-poaching in Africa and am a super proud supporter of WWF's Elephant projects in Kenya, Tanzania, India and Nepal.
I'm also a proud member of the UK's Woodland Trust: protecting the UK's trees and ancient woodlands, and inspiring people to enjoy the nature that is on their doorstep.
MORE OF MY BACKGROUND...
Soon after my RTW trip, I moved to London and started working at publishers of major travel brands.
I became skilled at planning my annual leave to make the most of it, from weekend breaks in Europe to 3 week road trips across Eastern Australia.
But soon, the draw became too much and I left my job and flat in Brixton and packed my backpack once more.
Between my travels I'm now based in beautiful Worcestershire, England. Five points to any non-Brits who can pronounce that properly!
My ethos is pretty cliche, but it's true: You only live once. I have always refused to follow convention and follow my heart instead. I refuse to be that person who regrets not doing more.
Our planet is big and beautiful and I want to experience as much as I can!
I created Plane Ticket for One as a place to store my tips and tricks for solo travellers and lone roamers, letting you share my adventures and tell me about yours!
I want to encourage everyone to travel solo at least once.
Try it! I dare you to not love it!
